Cathode Precursor Scientist
Mitra Chem is a growth-stage startup developing sustainable Li-ion battery cathodes in the heart of Silicon Valley. Our high-throughput acceleration platform shortens the lab-to-production timeline by >90% through vertically integrated process optimization and cutting-edge artificial intelligence applications. Our iron-rich cathodes are industry proven drivers of EV, ESS, and consumer electronics applications, and our team of industry leaders is developing a robust supply chain and manufacturing pipeline to deliver Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) qualified cathodes to our customers.

We are looking for a Cathode Precursor Scientist to design, develop, and scale-up the production of innovative materials for lithium-ion battery cathode products.
Responsibilities:
- Determine cathode product strategies and identify chemical and synthesis design spaces that address current and future customer needs, translating between end-application needs and material design parameters.
- Learn, establish, and leverage chemical design and synthesis rules to create cathodes with optimal composition, interfacial properties, morphology, and electrochemical characteristics
- Develop and test hypotheses based on scientific literature
- Conduct sophisticated design-of-experiments, utilizing modern informatics approaches
- Oversee experiments, including synthesis, metrology, cell prototyping, and cell testing
- Use design of experiments and statistical process control to perform process innovation and improvements.
- Work closely with the R&D and software infrastructure teams to develop Mitra’s products.
- Evaluate and experiment with routes for scaling-up powder production.
Experience:
- BS or MS degree in Materials Science, Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
- 3+ years in chemical R&D. Experience at pilot scale is a plus
- Strong knowledge and experience in a precipitation reaction synthesis of inorganic materials.
- Hand on experience in the Design and synthesis of Core-shell structured materials
- Capability of re-design a new material with physical, chemical, and electrochemical data.
- Quantitative background in statistical analysis and programming tools is a plus
- Experience with simulations and/or computational modeling is a plus

The following represents the expected range of compensation for this role:
- The estimated base salary range for this role is $135,000-$155,000.
- Additionally, this role is eligible to participate in a bonus and equity plan.
