Mitra Chem is developing and scaling-up manufacturing of battery cathode materials for markets spanning electric vehicles, storage systems and other applications critical for energy and national security.  Mitra Chem’s has a 3 pronged thesis:

  • Focus on iron-rich cathodes - industrialize LFP
  • Scale - build manufacturing capacity and supply-chain with reduced reliance on China
  • Speed - Accelerate development via an in-house built AI-accelerated software platform and accelerate industrialization by leveraging partnerships across the value chain.

 

We recently were awarded >$125M in grants from the U.S. Department of Energy and the State of Michigan to develop our first domestic manufacturing asset. We are looking for a Software Engineer to help architect, design, and implement Mitra Chem’s software infrastructure and data pipelines. A few highlights of the role:

  • Mission: Enable the energy transition by accelerating new material development for mass market EV batteries.
  • Ownership: Make key software design decisions as we develop and scale our infrastructure and be responsible for architecting powerful, cost efficient, and secure solutions.
  • Agility: Work at the crossroads of data science, chemistry, and manufacturing - building software that bridges the gap and empowers collaborative innovation.
  • Impact: Drive rapid decision making and continuously accelerate product development timelines by integrating data from a variety of hardware and software tools.
 

Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain a software infrastructure powered by state-of-the-art software tools and solutions that will serve as the driving force behind accelerated experimentation in our Mountain View, CA research lab and modern manufacturing in a factory being built in Michigan.
  • Automate data ingestion and analysis using cloud computing, SQL databases, and Python microservices.
  • Develop data pipelines and storage systems in support of proprietary, industry-disrupting data science and machine learning efforts.
  • Work closely with materials scientists and data scientists to identify R&D and manufacturing bottlenecks so we can develop new software tools and features.
  • Develop data visualization platforms to allow streamlined data access and interpretation.
  • Write documentation and train and support users on tool and infrastructure usage.
  • Stay up to date with and leverage advances in AI to build a modern software ecosystem.

    

Qualifications:

  • Software Engineer | 3+ years of experience
  • Strong knowledge of AWS, Git, SQL and familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes and Terraform.
  • Experience with data pipeline and workflow management tools such as Airflow, Argo etc.
  • Experience with and/or a willingness to write software in Python. 
  • Familiarity with event based data processing and serverless computing.
  • Experience with hardware programming and automation (e.g. data acquisition from and control of scientific / manufacturing instruments) is a plus.
  • Self-motivated and willing to work in a small team environment.
